Humberto Costantini remains well-known in his native Argentina, but not as well known and regarded abroad. That is a perplexing legacy, particularly given the fact that several of his novels and books of poetry have gone through three to five editions, and most poignantly, because his 1979 novel, De dioses, hombrecitos y policías [The Gods, The Little Men and The Police], won the prestigious Casa de las Américas prize (in Cuba).
