Abstract: The wild fauna is an important source of animal protein used for the subsistence of populations living in the forest. In many cases, the exploitation of fauna resources is a routine activity, being a source of income for the populations of the Amazon region. However, the use of these animals is being done through uncontrolled hunting and has been causing a reduction in some species. Breeding these animals has been a viable alternative to generate income and preserve many species. At Resex do Cazumbá-Iracema there was already a project for the management and creation of wild animals, thus, the objective of this work is to identify the factors that caused the closure of the activity and the zootechnical potential for a new creation. The study was carried out with residents of Resex do Cazumbá-Iracema through an exploratory research with a qualitative approach where the samples were defined by drawing lots. The results showed that even with the availability to participate in the management and creation project, the extractivists went through many difficulties, such as definition of objectives, lack of external support and poor administration of the project. However, there is a great diversity of species with zootechnical potential, moreover, most of the interviewees are interested in participating in a new breeding project. The research made it possible, therefore, to know the main problems of the previous project, enabling the elaboration of new strategies in the implementation of a new creation project at Resex do Cazumbá-Iracema.
